Mt. Whitney at sunup from Lone Pine, CA in October 2014. Mt. Whitney is the tallest peak in the   contiguous US and in this image, is the tallest peak on the distant horizon on the right. This was the start of a fairly long day hiking the Mt.Whitney trail. You gotta love October light!

The Mobius Arch off Movie Road in the Alabama Hills just outside of Lone Pine, CA late afternoon in October, 2014. Photographer's note: one of the things you'll discover in post production editing is that when you include large areas of sky and you are shooting back lit scenes, the importance of keeping your sensors clean becomes clear! Also, never, ever use canned air when cleaning them.

Big Horn Park

In the Mt. Whitney Zone recently-beautiful fall colors in Big Horn Park-I believe this is Wutan's Throne looking towards Mt. Whitney, which remains hidden from view. We only had a one day permit and due to the altitude and our tiring legs, had to turn back at this point, just a tad short of Outpost Camp. Next trip, maybe we'll get a better view, but this hits the mark pretty well, all things considered, IMO.

Pirates Cove, Fog & Clouds

On the trail that follows the cliffs south of Muir Beach, vistas of the Pacific, the California Coast and San Francisco's Richmond and Sunset Districts in the distance and maybe Pacifica, too.

Arch Rock, Pt.Reyes National Seashore

It's been a hectic summer with some editorial assignments along with some commercial work keeping me busy, so that's why it's been awhile since my last post. Here's from  a visit yesterday to Pt. Reyes National Seashore and the four mile trek from the Bear Valley Visitor Center to Arch Rock. Surf advisories were up, so there were a good number of boards visible in the cars headed to the beaches, though this particular locale isn't well suited to the surfing crowd as you can see. It's an easy, popular hike along the Bear Valley Trail that follows Coast Creek much of the way. It was high tide when we were there, so we didn't hike down to the beach to see the arch, and with the surf advisory in effect, it probably wasn't a good idea anyway.

Battery O'Rorke II

Atop Battery O'Rorke at Ft. Barry in the Marin Headlands, part of the Golden Gate Recreation Area, looking North. The stairs to the left lead to the four 3 inch gun mounts that were removed in 1946 following the forts' deactivation in 1945.

November Sky Quartet #1

A storm is due to arrive tomorrow.
Last gasp of fair weather for a few days.
Let your mind wander in the wonder of the natural world.
